How to Prepare Your Fridge for Removal

Moving your fridge is integral, but it takes more than just packing it in a box and loading it on a truck. There are a few things you need to keep in mind so that you can provide this critical appliance with a safe and smooth transit. They are:

Get creative

Get creative with the contents in your fridge a week or two before the moving day. Eat as much perishables and foods that require freezing as you can. This way, you will have less to move and less to lose. In case there are perishables left, give them to your family or friends.

Cleaning

As you get everything around your house clean for the move, don’t forget the fridge. Go through all your condiments and doors and throw away all out-of-date products.

Outside

Remove any magnets on the refrigerator doors and pack them in a sturdy moving box. Don’t leave them behind or misplace them since their absence could compromise the functionality of your appliance.

Keep cool

If you haven’t been able to consume all perishables before the moving day, put all items in a cooler bag or esky the night before.

Take it apart

Don’t move your fridge in one piece. Take out all drawers, shelves, and trays out and pack them, carefully with your dishes and other fragile kitchenware. It is challenging to find replacement parts for refrigerators. Take extra precaution when moving them!

Unplug the fridge

The night before the move, make sure you unplug the refrigerator. Leave the doors open while defrosting to speed up the process. Place an old towel in the doorway to soak u all excess water.
