Sheldon Forest is a bushland reserve located in the heart of Sydney’s Northern Suburbs. It offers an amazing opportunity for Sydneysiders to enjoy some time out in nature with family and friends, while also getting some exercise. The walking track at Sheldon Forest winds through the forest over hills and valleys and is about 2 kilometres long. There are beautiful views all around you as you walk along this serene path in Pymble.

This track is suitable for all levels of fitness, but if you are a beginner it may be best to start on the easier track. The shorter loop has been designed with families in mind and measures about 600 metres. Both loops have markers every 100-200 metres that indicate your distance from the entrance or exit point so you can pace yourself accordingly.

The longer walking tracks follow an easy gradient up and down hills through beautiful forest; the total length being around 5000 meters (just over half a mile). There’s plenty of opportunities for bushwalking enthusiasts to explore this area as there are three main trails at Sheldon Forest:

  • Main Walk – This is where walkers will find most features such as wildlife viewing spots, lookout points, and picnic benches along the way
  • Long Walk – The trail length is around 1000 metres and offers a variety of terrains, such as steep climbs and descents
  • Short Walk – This walk has been designed with families in mind. It’s short and flat with markers every 100 meters to help you pace yourself on the easier track

You can also hire bikes at Sheldon Forest for those who prefer cycling or rollerblading through the forest. Bikes are available for free use by members of Friends of Sydney Olympic Park Incorporation (FSOPI) or visitors pay $20 per bike/per hour ($30 half-day). Helmets must be worn while using any bicycle on the property.

The bushland reserve also has some beautiful picnic areas and there is a playground for children as well. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food, drinks or snacks with them or buy from the kiosk at Sheldon Forest which sells hot dogs, chips and soft drink cans etc.

Sheldon Forest Walking Track is located in Pymble off of Redhead Road (next to Turella Reserve). There’s parking available on site so you can drive right up into the car park! The entrance fee per person is $12 but this includes a map that shows all walking tracks around Sydney Olympic Park. You’ll find toilets here too if you need them before beginning your walk; alternatively, they’re just 500 metres away near the Turella Reserve entrance

Now you’ve read about the walking tracks at Sheldon Forest, it’s time to head out and explore this beautiful area for yourself. Don’t forget your camera!
