Punchbowl is a suburb of Sydney, located in the state of New South Wales. It is approximately 34 kilometres from the centre of Sydney and has a population of just over 4,000 people. Brief History

This area first became populated by Europeans after Governor Phillip established Parramatta as Australia’s first settlement in 1788. The suburb was named “Punchbowl” because of the bowl-shaped hill on which it is situated, and its location at the junction of three major roads – Punch Street (now Old Canterbury Road), Pitts Parade and Mulga Street (originally called Bigge Street).

Today there are many shops on Fourth Avenue including newsagents, cafes, restaurants and hairdressers. There is also plenty to do once school finishes at around three o’clock with cricket fields across the road and, just a little further on at the end of Mulga Street, there are tennis courts.

Organizations Nearby: These include a post office, primary school, RSL club and shops including an IGA supermarket. There are also several churches nearby such as St Michael’s Catholic Church on Josephson Avenue or Holy Cross Anglican Church on Edward Henry O’Neal Place.

Schools & Colleges near you: In addition to Punchbowl Public School, there is the Punchbowl Boys High School and a Catholic high school in nearby Campsie.

You’re also close to Western Sydney Institute of TAFE which offers courses such as certificates I-IV, diplomas I-III and apprenticeships.

Transport: It’s easy to get around this area thanks to public transport links including buses on Mulga Street for access into Parramatta or other areas of the city, trains from Macdonaldtown Station on Pitts Parade Road (near Holy Cross Anglican Church) and Punchbowl Station along Old Canterbury Road with services running between Blacktown via Granville station or Liverpool/Parramatta stations. There are some great cycle paths too!

Parks & Places of Interest: There are plenty of parks in and around Punchbowl, NSW including the Ivanhoe Reserve on Old Canterbury Road which has a playground. Also, there’s Barrenjoey Park which is a popular destination for whale watching.

Housing: There are plenty of houses for sale in this area with a range of different prices and styles on offer including modern apartments, townhouses or villas. Also, there are plenty of rental properties available with a range of prices and terms.

Safety: This area is a safe place to live thanks to its low crime rates. There are also plenty of CCTV cameras around the suburb and police stations are closeby.
