History
This beach was given its name in 1940, when George Morrison-Price and his friends were recovering from an exhausting ocean swim. They had just rounded a headland to get back into the sea, but they saw huge whales playing on the waves offshore. It’s believed that this is what gave them their inspiration for naming it Whale Beach – so that others could find this special place too!

Whale Beach, NSW can be found at one of four locations: Bald Hills Headland, Cape Solander (also known as South Turramurra), The Gap (near Berowra Waters) or finally Mona Vale. All offer beautiful views across Sydney Harbour and access to some great surfing opportunities too!

Whale Beach is easy to find with a little help. From Sydney, head south along the coast and keep an eye out for any of these four locations! Once you’ve found it, just follow the road from The Gap all the way back into town.
