Georges Head Military Fortification is a heritage-listed fortification in Mosman, NSW. It was built between 1881 and 1884 and its construction was supervised by Major General Sir William Jervois. The fortifications were designed to protect Sydney Harbour from attack from the sea, with guns positioned so that they could fire at enemy ships on both sides of the harbour entrance.
You cannot ignore this place especially if you are a military enthusiast. It is a place where you can feel the power of military might.
The Georges head defence system consists of land-based artillery batteries overlooking Sydney Harbour near Mosman, NSW; however there are two additional defence batteries that overlook the harbour from North Head.
The tour will include visiting the gun emplacements and a history of how this fortification played a vital role in defending Sydney Harbour during World War II.

Georges Head Military Fortification is part of Sydney’s heritage so this tour will give you an understanding of its construction and purpose. The fortifications are open every day from 11:00 am through sunset on weekdays (and until dusk at weekends). Visitors can walk around inside the grounds or take a guided tour along one side only (in groups up to 15) by prior arrangement. Guided tours cost $40 per person ($30 concession) and include entry into both Georges Heights military site as well as Captain Cook Memorial Museum.
