If you are looking for a place to visit in Strathfield 2135, then the Bark Huts Reserve is the perfect spot. This reserve has been around since 1878 and it was originally used as a picnic ground. The bark huts that the reserve is named after were erected in 1889 by council workers who wanted to provide shelter from sun or rain for visitors at the park. Today, this area has become an important habitat for wildlife and native plants, which can be seen throughout the course of your walk through this beautiful piece of land. There are plenty of different things to do here so you will never get bored!

There are a number of different walking trails that you can take through the reserve. If you are not sure where to start, then we recommend going on either the Outer Western Walk or Shaw’s Creek Nature Trail. Both these walks offer a unique experience and will show off some incredible parts of the park that most people miss.

Some of the things to do here include:

• Walking through the reserve to see all that it has to offer
• Visiting the Bark Huts, which were built in 1889 and are still standing today
• Going on a guided walk with one of our rangers who will show you more about this beautiful area.
• Taking a break at the shelter and enjoying some time on our bench
• Going for a picnic in one of the many designated areas, which are perfect to dine with friends or family.
• Playing at the playground, which is perfect for kids of all ages
• Swimming in Shaw’s Creek or exploring our wetlands
• Watching wildlife from one of our elevated lookouts. You may see a kangaroo, koala, wallaby or sleepy possum!

There are plenty of things to do here so it will be hard to decide what you want to prioritize when visiting this reserve. But if you want some more information about the history and native plants that call this place home then we recommend taking on either the Outer Western Walk or Cycas Loop walk through the park. These walks offer different perspectives but both showcase parts of Strathfield NSW that many people miss out on while passing by on their morning commute
