Whether you’re a local looking for some green space, or just visiting Wynyard and are in need of a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, there’s an amazing park nearby for you. Below are some of the best parks near Wynyard, Sydney:

  • Balmoral Beach Foreshore Reserve: This park is awesome for anyone who likes to be near the water. It’s located right on the foreshore and features a long stretch of grass that overlooks Sydney Harbour. There are lots of shady trees, picnic areas with barbecues, toilets (including disabled access), and some free parking if you don’t want to walk or catch public transport.
  • Wynyard Park: This is one of the largest parks in Sydney, and it’s home to many native species of plants and animals, including koalas! It has a gentle hill that takes you up into the park where there are lots of great places to picnic, BBQs with barbecues, and even tennis courts if you feel like getting active. The main attraction at this park though is all the peacocks who live onsite. They’re usually pretty friendly so long as they have enough space – just watch your step while walking through their favourite hangouts because they’ll be milling about looking for snacks!
  • North Head Sanctuary: This park is home to some spectacular views over Manly Beach, along with an array of native plants and wildlife that are found within its boundaries including koalas, kangaroos, and echidnas (if you’re lucky!). There are walking tracks all throughout which make for the perfect spot to get some fresh air and exercise.
  • Taronga Garden: Located right next to the zoo, this is a great spot for anyone who wants to get some peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s an expansive garden with lots of beautiful plants that are perfect for admiring or photographing – I always take my camera when heading here! There’s also a cafe onsite if you want coffee or tea along with your visit too.
  • Bicentennial Park: This park is home to great facilities for any sport, including tennis courts and a swimming pool. There’s also plenty of green space with picnic areas that are perfect for relaxing or hosting an event. If you’re looking for some adventure too it has BMX tracks and skateboard ramps as well!
  • Glenfield Community Centre: As this park features lots of buildings, there’s no shortage of places to explore inside either. It includes basketball courts, indoor soccer fields (complete with changing rooms), netball/tennis courts along with many other options – all at your fingertips once you walk through the doors!
